Open Invitation | Calling on Eateries to Join the Plastic-Free Trial and Drive a Greener Future Together!

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) is now inviting eateries to participate in trials of various non-plastic products! Regardless of whether you are already using non-plastic containers, we encourage you to participate in the trial and share your feedback. Let’s join hands to reduce plastic use and contribute to the protection of our environment!

The programme will open for applications on 15 August and is not be subject to any quota restrictions. Businesses can join at any time! Be part of our initiative and help explore more eco-friendly dining options!

Programme Objective

Plastics are difficult to decompose and can remain in the environment for a very long time. Over time, they can even fragment into microplastics, causing far-reaching harm to the environment and ecology as well as human health. To safeguard the environment and public health, we need to gradually reduce the use of plastics.

Through this programme, the EPD aims to expand the trial scope, enabling more eateries to participate in testing different types of non-plastic containers and collecting more comprehensive actual usage data. At the same time, feedback will be provided to suppliers for product improvement, thereby enhancing product design and quality. The programme will also continuously promote viable products to drive the large-scale practical adoption of non-plastic containers.

Participation method

Catering Establishments

• Eateries already fully or partially using related alternatives:
  • Share your experience to help us better understand the practical performance of the products and provide feedback to suppliers for product improvement.
• Eateries not yet using related alternatives:
  • We will collaborate with participating suppliers to provide you with product and discount information, allowing you to trial various non-plastic products at discounted prices. After the trial, simply share your feedback and you will be our valuable partner!

Tableware Suppliers

• Suppliers registered on the “Green Tableware Platform” can participate in this programme to offer discounts to eateries and promote non-plastic alternatives. (Discounted product models and details are determined by suppliers.)

Tips on Trial

• Trial on a variety of food/drinks and cuisines: hot drinks, cold drinks, sauced foods, soups etc.
• Key evaluation aspects: heat resistance, oil resistance, sealing ability, stability during delivery, etc.
• Share trial experience and submit feedback regularly.
• Customers are also welcome to share their experience via the “Green Tableware platform”.

• Exclusive promotion：We will further promote eateries and suppliers with outstanding performance (e.g. through featuring in social media posts) to showcase your environmental achievements!
